But in neighbouring Dominican Republic, reporter Guillermo Galdos discovers an immigration crackdown at the doors of its hospitals. As Haitian gangs try to take over the country, the Caribbean Island’s healthcare system is in a state of collapse, and a woman and child's chances of surviving a pregnancy there are the worst in the Western hemisphere. To give their babies a better chance at life, thousands of Haitian women a month are giving birth in the Dominican Republic, most of them have crossed over illegally.
