Garfield, the 20th U.S. President, is best known for the circumstances of his assassination in 1881, the medical story that followed, and the novelty of having the second-shortest administration in American history. But most people today can probably name more characteristics of Garfield, the comic strip cat, than facts about the life of the real Garfield. In this video we’ll take a deep dive into his fascinating life and political career, and how, as the ultimate dark horse in the tumultuous political season of 1880, he was unexpectedly thrust into the highest office in the land, and why he should be remembered despite his obscurity.
