Hyperparameter tuning allows you to test different parameter values for machine learning models to find the most accurate configuration, and I walk you through both approaches using a practical example. Using a Boston Marathon qualification dataset with features like miles per week and farthest run, I demonstrate how to implement both Grid Search and Randomized Search with a Random Forest Classifier. Grid Search tests every possible parameter combination, which can be computationally expensive but thorough. Randomized Search, on the other hand, randomly samples parameter combinations, making it faster and more practical when dealing with large parameter spaces. I explain the key differences between these methods: Grid Search multiplies all parameter options together (which can slow down your computer significantly), while Randomized Search only tests a specified number of random combinations. By the end of this tutorial, you'll understand when to use each method, how to set up parameter grids, interpret the best scores, and avoid overloading your system with unnecessary computations.
