The nightmarish visions of hell painted by Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch over five hundred years ago are some of the most familiar creations of Renaissance art. But the man who created these remarkable images is largely unknown, other than for a few passing references in the town archives of ‘s Hertogenbosch. This biographical documentary explores the life and unique imaginary world of Hieronymus Bosch, trying to uncover why he painted such strange and outlandish images and became known as the master of the grotesque.
