British War History
@britishwarhistoryAbout
Welcome to British War History, your home for the UK's most epic conflicts. Our mission is to cover the entire saga of British warfare, but we begin with its most dramatic era: the 18th and 19th centuries. This is the Age of the Redcoat, of Wellington vs. Napoleon, and Nelson's Royal Navy. We tell the stories of impossible victories, forgotten colonial wars, and the brilliant (and mad) generals who fought them. Using cinematic storytelling and animated maps, we show you how battles were won. Subscribe for your weekly military documentary.
Video Description
How do you conquer a continent in less time than it takes to eat lunch? On September 13, 1759, the entire future of North America was decided in just 15 minutes of brutal, decisive combat. This is the story of the Battle of Quebec, Major-General James Wolfe's audacious, last-ditch gamble. After a summer of failed attacks, the British campaign to capture the fortress of New France was on the verge of collapse. With winter approaching, Wolfe risked his entire army on a single, "impossible" plan: a secret nighttime landing at the Anse au Foulon, scaling a 175-foot cliff to force a battle the French thought could never happen. On the Plains of Abraham, 4,800 elite British Redcoats met 4,500 French regulars and militia under the command of their rival, General Montcalm. In this documentary, we analyze the fatal command decisions, the chaos of the French advance, and the single, catastrophic "double-shotted" volley from the British "Thin Red Line" that shattered an army and won an empire. From the daring pre-dawn climb to the tragic deaths of both generals on the field, this is the definitive story of the 15-minute gamble that changed the world. #BritishWarHistory #BritishHistory #BritishMilitary #BritishArmy #HistoryDocumentary #BattleAnalysis #MilitaryStrategy #HistoryChannel #ForgottenBattles #MilitaryHistory #WarHistory #History #UKHistory #BritishEmpire #RedcoatEra #18thCentury #19thCentury #BattleofQuebec #SevenYearsWar
