The staging system of knee arthritis is commonly used by doctors to help determine how severe your knee osteoarthritis is. Knowing what stage you are in helps doctors recommend treatments appropriate for your specific situation. But this system is not complete! It has many assumptions that we believe are false. This means the recommendations from doctors, based on what stage of knee arthritis your in, might NOT be good for you! There are 2 main flaws with this: The first is that knee cartilage does not heal and there is only degeneration over time no matter what you do. In other words, you’re doomed if you start having knee arthritis :-( The second flaw is that you cannot function without some loss of cartilage and that knee replacement surgery is necessary.
