Start by noting the dimensions of your garage: • Tools needed: A measuring tape, laser measure, and a notebook or sketchpad. • Process: Measure the floor, walls, and ceiling. Take note of openings like doors, windows, and obstructions like heaters or switches. • Pro Tip: Mark “concrete to concrete” on your notes to avoid miscalculations later when designing. For example, if one wall is ideal for workbenches or storage, ensure you have clear measurements for potential cabinet or shelf installations. Step 2: Plan Your Layout with Masking Tape Before committing to a layout, visualize your space using masking tape: 1. Mark the dimensions of your larger tools and furniture (e.g., table saw, workbenches, miter saw). 2. Experiment with positioning these elements directly on the floor. 3. Adjust until you find an arrangement that maximizes functionality and space. This hands-on method is perfect for understanding how your garage will feel once it’s filled with equipment. Step 3: Use the 2D Paper Method For a more detailed approach, try creating a 2D layout: 1. Use graph paper and assign a scale (e.g., 1 inch = 1 foot). 2.
