About

Ever wonder how the New Testament developed? Curious about the real story of the Protestant Reformation? Modern American Christian history? Welcome. I'm Ryan M. Reeves, and this channel is for the intellectually curious. As a historian (I earned my PhD from Cambridge University), We dive into big topics like: • Church History: From the Early Church to the Modern Era. • The Reformation: Deep dives on Luther, Augustine, and the world they transformed. • Key Thinkers: Exploring the minds of Augustine, Calvin, and more. • Cultural and Folk History: I love to explore social and cultural traces from time to time. • Philosophy & Ideas: Tracing the concepts that have shaped our world. My core philosophy is simple: I take each subject seriously, but I don't take myself too seriously. I don't expect everyone to agree with me on everything—in fact, that's the fun of history! There's always a lot to argue over. If you believe learning is a conversation, hit SUBSCRIBE and join in.

Video Description

After the Reformation, the Roman Catholic Church began to reform some of its abuses. The Catholic Reformation, though, was not only a reaction to Protestantism, but also a flowering of Roman Catholic practice. Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuits are the best example of the Catholic Reformation. This video explores both Ignatius and the Jesuits as well as the wider Catholic Reformation. Ryan M. Reeves (PhD Cambridge) is Assistant Professor of Historical Theology at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
