2025 is one of, if not the worst years for cinema in the last 40 years. And we have proof. In terms of raw numbers, 2025 has the lowest theater attendance in the last four decades—obviously excluding the pandemic years, when most cinemas were closed. Because ticket prices went up, total box office revenue in 2025 is slightly higher than in 2024 and even 2023. But even if we disregard the numbers, it feels like one of the worst years for cinema that I can remember. The only movie that was actually good and made a decent amount of money was Sinners.The rest was just terrible. Maybe it’s just me, but even movies that weren’t financial flops were absolutely awful, and I genuinely don’t understand how they made money. It was all just hype. So let’s go over some movies that flopped in 2025. It’s funny that every Marvel movie flopped. Captain America: Brave New World was so bad and boring, with terrible CGI. They couldn’t even finish the movie properly. Thunderbolts was actually decent, but still, many things didn’t make sense. It just felt very meh. Marvel really counted on Fantastic Four to perform well, but again, it flopped—not only financially, but people also hated the movie. I thought it would at least perform somewhat okay, but even Galactus couldn’t save it. Snow White was an absolutely disgrace to the original material as well and flopped hard. Just like Tron: Ares, which was supposed to revitalize the franchise. Predator: Badlands also flopped, and in my opinion, it was actually really bad and might have ended the entire Predator franchise altogether. Although Avatar 3 was pretty good, it’s still the worst Avatar movie out of the three, and it felt like a collage of scenes from the previous two films. Some scenes are literal replicas—not just visually, but even the exact same lines, which is just ridiculous. So I honestly can’t think of any good movie in 2025 other than Sinners. Everything else was an absolute disappointment. For example, Jurassic World: Rebirth was so bad and unforgettable that I literally stopped watching it halfway through because it was just unbearably boring. The box office was around $800 million, but the actual movie is absolutely terrible. Even visually, it looks flat and worse than the original Jurassic Park.
