Avengers Endgame is arguably one of the top 3 marvel movies of all time and it had many incredible moments that fans were waiting for. When I was watching it in a theatre, the audience reaction was overwhelming at the moment when Captain America wielded Thor’s Hammer. So in this video we’ll be talking about how exactly Captain America aka Steve rogers became worthy to lift Thor’s hammer. On top of that directors of the Endgame Russo Brothers themselves gave some insights on how Rogers was Able to do it. So how exactly Rogers gained control over the hammer and powers coming with it ? To answer these questions we need to revisit, a few of the past MCU movies to recall that the hammer actually has 2 magical spells and not one, which many people don’t realize. First of all, I think everybody remembers that Steve Rogers slightly moved Thor’s Hammer in Avengers Age of Ultron and since that scene fans were speculating that Rogers is actually worthy. Then in Endgame Cap not just lifted the hammer but attracted it, the same way as Thor and that raises a question what exactly changed from the Age of Ultron to the Endgame so that Cap was finally able to lift Mjolnir. The actual reason is slightly complicated so let’s break it down point by point. Mjolnir was forged as a weapon made of Uru in Nidavellir per Odin's request. The first person to wield it was his eldest daughter Hela, whom Odin eventually locked up in hell. Then Mjolnir was a gift to Thor during his coronation as the kind of Asguard. After the breaking the peace agreement with Frost giants, Thor showed that he didn’t deserve to have this powerful weapon was stiped away of his powers. At that moment, Odin created the spell that only the worthy person can wield the hammer to ensure that it is used for good. Up until then technically anyone could have the hammer. Now let’s give a careful look at sequence in the In the Age of Ultron when Cap slightly moved Mjolnir. The scene starts with Tony asking "If I can pick it up, do I get to rule Asgard?" and Thor replies “yeah sure” he’s very relaxed and fully confident that nobody in this room will be able to do it. Then everybody starts trying to lift the hammer but they fail. Finaly when Captain America tries to pick it up, the hammer actually movies a few inches but then it stops. Here is when it gets interesting, In one of the interviews, I’ll link it in the description, Russ Brothers explained that Captain America was always worthy to wield Thor’s hammer and in that particular scene he decided to just not do it because he knew it would hurt Thor’s confidence, which is illustrated by his reaction On top of that, the scene starts by Tony and Thor saying whoever picks Mjolnir gets to rule Asgard. Rogers is a humble character, he would not use power unless he needs to and obviously he doesn’t want to rule Asguard. For these reasons he just decided to not lift the hammer at that moment after realizing that he can actually do it. This fact illustrates furthermore that he’s worthy since he didn’t need to put himself above other avengers by showing that he is able to wield the hammer. Looking that the Captain America’s history, protecting innocent people and their freedoms was the idea that he lived by to the point that he sacrificed himself without hesitation to stop the hydra plane with a bomb on its way to New York. In Avengers: Endgame, Rogers uses the hammer at the moment when he absolutely needs to when Thanos is about to kill Thor with Stormbreaker, actually in the exact same way as Thor nearly killed him in Infinity War. To summarize, we just figured out how Captain America lifted Thor’s hammer, however another question remains how Rogers was able to use lightnings to strike Thanos. Doesn’t this ability belong to Thor God of Thunder ? The answer is yes, however, Mjolnir has 2 magical spells that are explained in Thor. The first one is that you have to be worthy to wield it, but there is also the second half that not many people know. When Odin casted Thor away he actually created the 2 spell on the hammer by saying “Whoever holds this hammer, if he is worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." So first of all you have to be worthy to hold the hammer and the secondly if you are you will possess the power of Thor.
