Lila Downs brings her 7-year-old daughter Vanessa on stage for the song "Cariñito" during a Día de los Muertos concert. Recorded live at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, California on October 12, 2024. Cariñito is a cumbia song originally recorded by the Peruvian group Los Hijos del Sol in 1979. The song has been covered by many over the years, including La Chamba, Bareto, Kien Mató a Rosero, La Base Musical, Chico Trujillo, Ruzzi, Novedades Carminha, La Sarita, Giant Giant Sand, and Pachuco y la Cubanacan. Lila Downs released a cover of Cariñito on her album, Al Chile (2019). Lila Downs is a Grammy and Latin Grammy winning singer-songwriter from Oaxaca, Mexico. This was a special performance through SFJazz to celebrate Día de los Muertos, Mexico’s Day of the Dead.
