Lost Rivers of London: Walking forgotten tributaries of the Fleet (4K)

Video Description

This Lost Rivers Walk explores the forgotten tributaries of the River Fleet around Clerkenwell, Islington and Bloomsbury. Our journey back into London's deep past starts at the magnificent St John's Gate where the Little Torrent once rose and ran down through the precincts of the Priory of St John to make its confluence with the Fleet on Farringdon Road. Here the Fleet was known as the Turnmill Brook for many years. We explore a short watercourse that ran near Saffron Hill and hear the sound of the underground river. Then we follow a forgotten river from Mount Pleasant back to its source up in Islington. Our final lost tributary of the River Fleet makes its confluence with London's most famous lost river near St Pancras Station and we follow its course back to the source in Bloomsbury.
