The naturally-aspirated (non-turbo) engines across the CX-30 range, offer quite a different driving experience, the large displacement with cylinder de-activation tech makes the engine smoother and more efficient on high speed journeys, than a smaller 1.0L for example. To get that oomph, you have to rev the car out more as there is no help from a turbocharger, however this is also quite fun. Mazda's M Hybrid system is a mild-hybrid setup, taking pressure off the engine to run things such as air conditioning, as well as helping to start the vehicle and allowing the I-Stop start/stop system to kick in much more often than on a conventional non-MHEV petrol vehicle. The small SUV segment is quite crowded currently, with most manufacturers having least 1 vehicle in the category or as is the case with some makes like Volkswagen; as many as 3 small SUVs in the range. The CX-30 was launched at the back end of 2019, being based on the Mazda3 hatchback, and it hasn't changed much since this initial launch, a timeless design & beautiful ergonomic interior, means it doesn't appear dated. 5 trims are available, with the model I tested being the Exclusive Line, with plenty of features like the BOSE sound-system, full LEDs, 18" alloys, rear tinted windows & more. Impressively though, as standard the CX-30 is equipped with a head-up display, 10.25" infotainment screen, 7" digital dial, Mazda Radar Cruise Control & more, making it very well equipped against competitors.
