On 16 January 2017, acclaimed American writer Paul Auster was interviewed by Channel 4 News' Jon Snow. Speaking just four days before the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States, Auster articulated his view of Trump as a threat to the foundations of American society. He argued that Trump had revealed the vulnerabilities in America's institutions, likening them to buildings "made of soap", and he discussed Trump's relationship with Putin.
