The latest official figures from The Pokemon Company show that Pokemon Legends ZA sold 5.8 million units worldwide in its release week across both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. While this is a strong launch by many standards, it is cited as only the fifth-best opening in the Pokémon series. In Japan, the numbers tell a more mixed story. According to Famitsu weekly data, Pokemon Legends ZA achieved around 1.48 million physical units in its first week in the Japanese market (872,552 on Switch + 612,905 on Switch 2). While it did slightly edge the first-week Japanese physical sales of Pokemon Legends: Arceus (≈ 1.42 million) in one data set, it still lags the domestic benchmark set by Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, which sold over 2.5 million in its debut week in Japan. That indicates the Japanese performance, while solid, is comparatively weaker when placed against the top-tier launches in the franchise. Looking at the broader comparison with Legends: Arceus globally, the gap widens — Arceus sold 6.5 million units worldwide in its first week according to Nintendo’s announcement. By contrast, even though Pokemon Legends ZA is a sequel and also launches concurrently on a new console generation (Switch 2) and legacy platform, its 5.8 million figure suggests less momentum.
