President of air traffic controllers frustrated with workers not being paid due to shutdown

As the government shutdown extends into its fourth week, air traffic controllers are feeling the strain, missing their first full paychecks and raising concerns about staffing and safety. The National Air Traffic Controllers Association spent Tuesday handing out flyers that highlight staffing and safety concerns because of the shutdown to travelers trying to catch their flights. "Low staffing, unreliable equipment, and then you strip away their pay and say, continue going to your job every day and move 3 million passengers and 45,000 flights. It's completely unacceptable. The frustration level is at an all-time high. The anger is at level 10," said Nick Daniels, president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association. Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy criticized Democrats for rejecting a bill that would pay federal workers. “Let’s have a bill that pays them for the work they do, and Democrats said no to that," he said. The deadlock persists as Democrats demand healthcare subsidy guarantees, while Republicans push for a "clean" funding bill to reopen the government without additional policy or spending. The Senate's 13th vote on such a bill failed again Tuesday, a day after the largest federal workers union urged Democrats to vote with Republicans on the clean funding bill to reopen the government.
