Restoring a Mauser 1871 Carbine

During the beginning of the cartridge era, up through the end of World War One, most militaries fielded a long rifle as their primary weapon. Most also had a shortened pattern for use by cavalry and artillery troops. The Imperial German Army was no exception. Upon unification, they adopted the Mauser 1871 as their primary long rifle, and the Karabiner 1871 as their shortened rifle. Kar 71's are considered rare today, not only to find one in general, but find one in good condition. These handy short rifles were used considerably. When I found this one, it's fore-end had been cut down and the nose cap missing. I managed to find a replica nose cap. In this video I fit it to the rifle, as well as add a new section of wood to serve as the fore end.
