Video Description

This special event celebrated the 400-year relationship between the Netherlands and the U.S., and especially between Amsterdam and New Amsterdam – that is, New York. It features talks by Geert Mak and Russell Shorto, the presentation of the book they co wrote for the event (1609: The Forgotten History of Hudson, Amsterdam and New York), as well as a discussion including: Frans Timmermans (Minister for European Affairs), Marjorie Ames (US Consul General in Amsterdam), Sam Roberts (New York Times reporter), Ruth Oldenziel (American specialist at Eindhoven University), Beth Fertig (New York Broadcaster Moderator: Twan Huys. In cooperation with: Gemeente Amsterdam, Henry Hudson 400 Foundation, Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, NY400.
