Video Description

During the Cold War, Denmark’s task within NATO was simple but vital: to mine the Danish Straits and prevent the Soviet Baltic Fleet from breaking into the North Sea. This role as a “gatekeeper” was reinforced by Greenland’s Thule Air Base, a cornerstone of America’s nuclear early-warning system, and by Denmark’s small but strategically placed navy. Geography made Denmark indispensable: it controlled access to the Baltic and extended NATO’s reach deep into the Arctic. Today, that significance is resurfacing—highlighted by the Nord Stream sabotage near Danish waters and drones, possibly Russian, intruding into Danish airspace. Once again, Denmark’s small size masks its outsized importance in Europe’s confrontation with Moscow.
