So after the overwhelmingly positive critical reception of Metal Gear: Ghost Babel for the GameBoy, Konami decided it would be a good idea to let the game’s director, Shinta Nojiri, take the helm on a new handheld spinoff for the series. And this was a very exciting time for handheld gaming, with Sony’s new PlayStation Portable being just on the horizon, and thanks to Konami’s strong relationship with the PlayStation brand, this new Metal Gear spinoff would end up being a launch title for the PSP. So the team sat down to decide what this new title would be, and they of course chose the most natural fit for the Metal Gear franchise: a card-based tactical RPG.
