Spring 1944. A Messerschmitt Bf-109 pilot grins confidently as he leads his squadron toward yet another vulnerable American bomber formation entering Germany. Of course, it’ll be escorted by fighters, but they always stick predictably close to the strike package and can be easily outmaneuvered. Suddenly, a P-47 Thunderbolt drops in from one o’clock high, pumping a stream of bullets toward them. Another flashes past their right wing at three o’clock, guns blazing. The bewildered German pilots barely have time to react when a third American fighter slashes upward from. The squadron leader shouts for the formation to tighten - too late. More P-47s are coming in from nine, and even from above. The sky is closing in. The Germans don’t know where to look next. The interceptors have been intercepted. They’ve never seen these tactics.
