In 1990, Saddam Hussein's Iraq invaded its neighbor, Kuwait. Several months later an American-led military coalition waged a brief war to reverse the invasion. Though greatly overshadowed by subsequent events, especially the 2003 Iraq War, the 1990-91 Persian Gulf War remains a pivot point of recent world history.
