He was one of the main figures in the rise of the SoundCloud rap scene, becoming one of the biggest artists to originate from the platform. He was often labeled as a controversial artist because of his aggression and certain allegations made against him, but he would preach positivity more and more as he got older. While X’s rapid ascent in music was eclipsed by his legal woes, his cult-like fan base grew exponentially with every release, despite the controversy surrounding him. His music explored a wide variety of genres, including emo, trap, lo-fi, indie rock, punk rock, nu metal and hip hop. His legacy is complicated, with some praising him for the honesty and realness in his songs dealing with his mental health struggles, and others denouncing him for his past history of violence.
