Turning Online Connections Into Real Life Friendships 🌊

Hi Friends, my name is Callum aka wanderloots. In today's video, I reflect on what it means to Turn Online Connections Into Real Life Friendships ✨ I just spent the week in New York City attending FarCon, a Farcaster social network meet up for an incredible community. FarCon was one of my favourite in real life events I've ever attended. I met so many incredible people in the wonderful NYC, so I thought I would share some of my key takeaways on what it means to connect URL (online) and IRL (in real life). Going from online to offline, from online to reality. In particular, I share a lot of thoughts on flow states, value alignment, the creator economy, and what it means to build micro-communities. I think we are in an era of micro-communities (1000 True Fans) becoming more impactful than the macro networks of traditional social media. To me, Farcaster feels like a social network, not social media. There are no ads, no dark patterned behaviours, and generally, I feel good about using it. It's kind of like a hybrid of Twitter (X) and Reddit. It has the short form posting style of Twitter, with the channel (subreddit) communities of Reddit. Farcaster is a decentralized social media app that is really more of a social networking app. By that, I mean that people are there to engage with each other, rather than with the media alone (like on Instagram, Facebook, etc). I personally have found this network to be the best community space online, as the people are incredibly genuine, creative, and knowledgeable. Farcaster is decentralized because it operates as a protocol, rather than a platform.
