Install Homebrew (macOS users): • Open Terminal and paste the following command: /bin/bash -c “$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)” • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. 2. Install iPerf3 via Homebrew: • In Terminal, run: brew install iperf3 • Alternatively, you can download iPerf3 from the official site: https://iperf.fr/iperf-download.php Network Testing with iPerf3 • SSH into your NAS: • Open Terminal and run: ssh your_username@nas_ip_address • Launch iPerf3 in server mode on your NAS: • Run: iperf3 -s • From your computer, start iPerf3 in client mode: • Open another Terminal window and run: iperf3 -c nas_ip_address • Review the results: • Look for throughput around 8–10Gbps. If speeds are lower, inspect cables, switch settings, and consider whether jumbo frames may help. Monitor CPU Usage with htop on Your Synology NAS • Install “SynoClii Monitor Tools”: • Log in to your NAS’s web interface and open the Package Center. • Search for “SynoClii Monitor Tools” and install it (this package includes htop). • SSH into your NAS: • Open Terminal and run: ssh your_username@nas_ip_address • Launch htop: • Simply type: htop • Monitor during file operations: • Perform read/write tasks and observe CPU load. Expect low usage during reads and a moderate increase during writes.
