Salaries are simply stretched across twelve months, forcing many teachers to work second jobs, tutor after school, teach summer school, or take on extra duties just to survive. Teacher evaluations are now driven by testing data. Student growth scores, benchmarks, and constant data meetings determine a teacher’s job security. Yet students face little academic pressure, unlimited retakes, easy credit recovery, and automatic promotion, while teachers are held fully responsible for the results. This imbalance has created burnout, anxiety, and a quiet culture of cheating and data manipulation in schools. Administrative support is inconsistent at best and harmful at worst. Some administrators feel trapped by the system and pass pressure down to teachers. Others are inefficient, disengaged, or openly hostile. A small number protect their teachers, but these administrators rarely last. Teachers who ask for help are often met with improvement plans, increased observations, or added professional development instead of real support. Student behavior has declined as accountability has disappeared. Authority is treated as oppression, consequences are removed in the name of equity, and teachers are blamed when classrooms become unsafe or unmanageable. Parents are often kept in the dark by confusing grading systems that hide failure and eliminate urgency. This is why teachers are quitting in record numbers. The stress is constant, the workload is unsustainable, and the rewards that once made teaching worth it have been stripped away. What remains is a profession that drains people mentally, physically, emotionally, and relationally. This is not a teacher problem. It is a system problem.
