Woodturning Amazing Patterned Bowl

Woodturning this patterned plywood bowl has been on my project list for a while now. I made a similar pattern cutting board for my wife five years ago (without plywood) and wanted the challenge of creating the same pattern in a round shape. I combined baltic birch plywood with cherry and wenge. While this piece was a blast to make and came out exactly as I had envisioned, I'm hesitant to attempt something similar in the future. Turning plywood is... not fun. Saying it turns poorly would be an understatement. To compound that issue, the wenge was also a poor choice. While it looks great, it also doesn't turn well. It's a very hard wood that dulls tools quickly. At least the finishing process was a pleasure compared to my usual technique. I went back to my old tried-and-true favorite: raw linseed oil and beeswax. It's probably my favorite finish for pieces I make that are of an all-wood design. It really brings out the beauty of the wood, and I personally like the feel. This was a challenging piece that pushed my design skills to the limit.
