Enter Munna Shukla (Vijay Kumar Shukla), the youngest, who rose from the ashes of family vendettas. In the 2000 Bihar Assembly elections, Munna, already facing multiple charges, won the Lalganj seat as an Independent with the backing of fellow gangsters like Surajbhan Singh, Ranjan Tiwary, Sunil Pandey, and others. Jailed during the polls, he was dramatically escorted from Beur Jail to take oath as MLA, then violated court orders to celebrate at a posh Patna hotel. These underworld figures played a pivotal role in supporting Nitish Kumar’s short-lived government in March 2000, helping him become Chief Minister amid alliances with the NDA. But the story takes a dark turn with the 1998 murder of RJD minister Brij Bihari Prasad, a longtime enemy of the Shuklas. Stemming from a decades-old rivalry over contracts and turf, Prasad was gunned down at a Patna hospital. Munna, along with Surajbhan and others, was accused. After years of trials, the Supreme Court convicted Munna and Mantu Tiwari to life imprisonment in October 2024, upholding the sentence in May 2025 despite appeals.
