Video Description

The Dutch election saw a historic result for the liberal D66 party led by Rob Jetten. The pro-Europe, pro-climate party tied Geert Wilder's Freedom party with 38-year-old Jetten now poised to become Prime Minister, if he can form a coalition. Wilders collapsed the Dutch government in June after leaving the coalition despite his party being the largest member, triggered by a row over immigration. His Freedom Party had hoped to gain more ground in the new elections but it didn’t go to plan with his party losing its position as the largest party in the Dutch parliament, tying on second place. The liberal-centrist D66 surged to its best result in its history. With the Netherlands’ mainstream parties vowing not to work with Wilders’ PVV again, D66 Rob Jetten now has the tough task of forming a government from ideologically varied parties - and holding them together.
