Video Description

00:00:00 Ancient Roman Villa Time Team explores Litlington, a quintessential English village in Cambridgeshire, believed to hide a large Roman villa, potentially one of the biggest in Britain. Unfortunately for the team, the last people to excavate the site were 19th century antiquarians, and all they left behind were some unreliable maps which the team have to decipher in order to pinpoint the villa's exact location. But with more digging and investigation, could they find the large Roman villa described in old texts and maybe even something better? 00:47:18 Ancient Roman Fort In 43 AD, the Romans invaded Britain and they landed in Kent. Nobody knows what happened immediately after they arrived though, because no Roman fort has been discovered in this part of South East England. Time Team are on a mission to find the missing link. Local archaeologist Paul Wilkinson believes he has already found a military ditch, which would surround such a fort. It's a prime site, right next to Watling Street. However geophysics cannot find any evidence for a ditch. So begins one of Time Team's most frustrating digs ever. 01:36:00 Ancient Roman Mosaic Time Team get a unique opportunity to dig at an army firing range at High Ham in Somerset and investigate a series of mosaics first discovered 150 years ago. Everything indicates a Roman villa, though perhaps not on such a grand scale. Welcome to The World History Channel.
