Container Falls Off Chassis in the Middle of Traffic. Well, you don't see accidents like this too often! It's pretty rare when the container flips over, with the chassis half flipped and half upright. The obvious answer is the front pins weren't locked so when the rear goes over, it takes and twists the chassis to go with it. But since the front of the chassis is still attached at the 5th wheel, that part is upright. It's usually the entire container, the container with chassis, or both with the tractor as well. The hard part about these jobs is the chassis is not designed to be in this position. There is so much torque and pressure, that when you release either side holding it down it can violently snap. That is why I made the decision to remove it from the front, so it would be less dangerous and easier to control. The front of the chassis popping UP, is less risky than the rear slamming DOWN. We also had the disadvantage to work this with traffic flowing on both sides of us, but that's nothing new. That's part of the reason we get these jobs done so quick, is to hurry and get off the freeway. Timing here was great, and both Landoll trailers showed up just as they were needed. Once both chassis and container were loaded, we met off the freeway with the company to put the container on a new chassis.
