Video Description
Thank you for watching! In 1934 Aberdeen, eight-year-old Helen Priestly was murdered after being sent to buy bread. Her body was found stuffed in a sack in a tenement close. Jeannie Donald, Helen’s downstairs neighbour, was arrested and tried for the killing. Forensic expert Sir Sydney Smith linked Donald to the crime through hair, fibres, and vomit evidence—one of Scotland’s earliest cases using modern forensics. The jury took just 18 minutes to convict her of murder. Donald was sentenced to death, though her ultimate fate remains unclear. The case shocked Scotland for its brutality and for a woman being the accused, marking a landmark in both forensic science and Scottish criminal history. Links you may be interested in...
