He targeted Italian immigrants, often breaking into homes at night and attacking victims with an axe or straight razor. The killer sent a chilling letter to newspapers, claiming to be a demon who would spare homes playing jazz music. This sparked a city-wide frenzy, with people hosting jazz parties to avoid his wrath. Despite multiple attacks, the Axeman was never caught, and his identity remains unknown. The killings abruptly stopped in 1919, leaving behind fear, mystery, and speculation that he might have been connected to the Mafia, a deranged loner, or even a supernatural figure.
