Most hobbyist woodworkers get exposed to more fine dust in a few hours than employees in a professional cabinet shop get exposed to in months. Fine dust is invisible and we get lulled into a false sense of security with our dust collection systems. Even expensive dust collectors only filter out large chips and SOME of fine dust down to 1 micron, BUT so much more is getting into and staying in the air. Anything above 0.3 microns is bad for your health and can cause all sorts of respiratory problems including cancer. In today’s video I show you what good dust collection is, what type of dust collector you should buy and which PPE (personal protective equipment) gear you need.
