𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗦𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗣: LAPD and Rangers Detain Man During Venice Cleanup

VENICE, CA — Friday, November 7, 2025 — A coordinated multi-agency cleanup operation took place at Venice Beach next to the public restrooms on Friday, during which Los Angeles Police Officers detained a homeless street artist in handcuffs while sanitation crews continued their work. Advance cleanup notices had been posted prior to the operation, alerting individuals camping in the area. Under city protocol, inspectors provided 60-gallon bags for personal belongings and informed the individual that no more than 60 gallons of property could be retained under Los Angeles Municipal Code §56.11. The individual declined to comply, prompting officers to restrain him so the cleanup could proceed as part of the City of Los Angeles’ ongoing effort to maintain sanitation, safety, and accessibility in public spaces. The operation was led by the Department of Public Works in collaboration with Los Angeles Park Rangers, Los Angeles Police Officers, Environmental Compliance Inspectors (E.C.I.), Clean Harbors Environmental Services, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and a homeless coordinator from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office. Environmental Compliance Inspectors and hazmat specialists identified and removed hazardous materials including batteries and aerosols. Clean Harbors personnel handled toxic waste, while Public Works crews removed trash and bulky debris from sidewalks, beach pathways, and recreational spaces adjacent to the boardwalk. Representatives from the council office coordinated inter-agency communication on scene, while LAHSA outreach workers distributed bottled water, food, and hygiene kits, and offered access to supportive housing and mental-health resources. No arrests or citations were issued.
