Photographer Abi Campbell gives us a tour of her beachside home, tucked behind the dunes of Camber Sands. Inspired by the desert landscapes of California, Abi transformed the 1960s timber-framed bungalow into a coastal sanctuary layered with natural textures and saturated in light. Inside, wooden panelling, limewashed walls and polished concrete floors set a calm, rustic tone, while low-slung leather chairs, handcrafted ceramics, and mid-century pieces, sourced from Vinterior and Facebook Marketplace, bring warmth and character. As a photographer, light was a priority throughout the interiors. Carefully positioned fittings and considered sightlines enhance the home’s architecture, while clever look-throughs and internal windows add to the sense of openness and flow. Abi’s bedroom and office are lined with doors that flood the spaces with light and bring the sound of the sea to her doorstep. While the house is undeniably a personal sanctuary, it’s also built for company. A separate guest suite and two additional bedrooms mean it’s often full of family, friends and a steady stream of volunteers to cat-sit Ziggy when Abi is away. Just outside, Camber Sands’ dramatic dunes offer a change of pace - whether it’s barefoot beach walks on hot summer mornings or stargazing from the comfort of her bed.
