What is the PhD Process and How Do PhDs work?! Today we are discussing Timeline, Milestones, and Yearly Expectations of a PhD program! Hi Friends! Although it has always been my dream to get a PhD, until I got to college, I didn’t personally know ANYONE who had successfully completed the doctoral process. And I didn’t even really understand how PhDs are supposed to work until AFTER my first year! Sure, I could google “what is a PhD”, or “how do PhD programs work”, but when I did, half the time there wasn’t much information about the BASIC expectations of a PhD degree or when there was, I really didn’t understand what it all meant! So today, I went year by year to really unpack what are the basic expectations of EACH year of doctoral graduate program and some advice to remember as you move through your PhD program. Of course this PhD timeline will look a little different depending on your grad program, your graduate school, and your own personal graduate goals! However, this PhD timeline is a great template to get an idea for what a doctoral process looks like and how to succeed in graduate school as you pursue your PhD degree !
