I Bought a Rare BMW Z4M Coupe. Here’s What I Had to Fix First

I finally introduce my 2007 BMW Z4M Coupe (E86)—a car I’ve quietly owned since last November and one of only 80 configured like this ever sold in the U.S (Interlagos Blue, Black Interior, Carbon Leather Trim, No-Navigation). This car came from former SCCA racers and had seen track duty—sticky tires, a roll bar, and track pads included. So before I could fully enjoy it, I had to deal with some long-overdue maintenance and fix a few lingering issues that kept me from driving it more. Here’s what we tackle: - Swapping track brake pads for street-friendly ones - Discovering destroyed pads & rotors, and rebuilding the calipers - Installing new stainless brake lines, sensors, and a clutch line - Changing the engine oil, and transmission fluid - Flushing and bleeding the brake & clutch fluid with a powerbleeder - Refinishing the original BMW wheels - Getting the car cleaned up and ready for its first proper drive To cap things off, I take it on a spirited drive through the Driftless Area of western Wisconsin—beautiful roads, big smiles, and the start of a new chapter with this underappreciated M car.
