Outside the cabin window, the wind was humming in the spruce crowns, throwing snow at the small glass of the door, smearing white streaks across the dark sky. Inside, everything was different: the stone fireplace breathed with steady fire, the flame softly illuminated the walls made of rough logs, the bookshelves, and the old chair by the wall. On the wool rug right in front of the hearth lay the dog - tired but happy after a long walk in the snow. She tucked her paws in, laid her muzzle on the rug, and almost immediately slipped into sleep. A little closer to the fire curled up the cat: he settled tightly against the warm side of the dog, like a living heater, and only the tip of his tail twitched occasionally in his sleep. The flame crackled, throwing golden reflections on their fur, and it seemed as if the fire was hugging them with its light. In the basket by the fireplace, firewood was neatly stacked, and on the wooden stump stood a red kettle still holding the warmth of boiled water. The owner had been here recently - tidied up, added logs, left everything ready for the night, and had already climbed up to the attic to sleep, entrusting the silence to his four-legged friends. The room gradually filled with thick calm: the clock hand on the shelf moved steadily forward, and the wind behind the door howled farther and farther away, turning into a distant background, like the rustle of the sea. Warm air from the fireplace rose upward, mixing with the smell of wood, smoke, and old books, and this simple mixture seemed like the best medicine in the world for anxiety. The dog shifted slightly in her sleep, pressing the cat closer, the cat responded with a quiet, contented purr - and at that moment it became clear that in this small winter cabin everything was in its place. Even if somewhere far away winter, a blizzard, worries, and sleepless nights continued, here the night would be long, soft, and safe: the fire would not go out until it wrapped all three - the cabin, the dog, and the cat - in deep, peaceful sleep."
