When police discovered a man on fire in Edmonton, north London, they assumed he had set fire to himself, he died in hospital 16 days after the incident. Michael Menson, who had been part of a successful pop band in the 1980's, had a history of mental illness but he told his family he'd been attacked and his family campaigned to get police to investigate. Nearly two years later New Scotland Yard launched an investigation into Michael's death, and using surviellance techniques previously only used in the conflict in Northern Ireland, they managed to get the evidence needed to convict those responsible.
