If you are a beginner or someone who is just looking for the most modern way to deploy your home lab, this is the video for you. It can be super confusing, but my hope is the diagrams will better help you understand the purpose and design of using virtual local networks from withing your local area network. 🔗 Links to Software PfSense - https://www.pfsense.org HomeAssistant - https://www.home-assistant.io 🖥️ The first part is a discussion about using VLANS and Firewall Rules in order to control traffic between your networks. I am using PFsense and this is a router software that allows you to build you own routers. By building your own you have most control and can prevent manufactures of off the shelf routers from limiting, controlling, or worse, viewing your traffic. Using your router in conjunction with your managed switch, we have the ability to break our network up into small ones. And with firewall rules we can prevent, or enable, those networks to talk and see each other or not. And of course we can even limit that to one machine on your VLAN and one port on that machine.
