USS Harder (SS-257), a Gato-Class submarine was launched on August 19th, 1942, and sailed her first patrol in the Pacific on June 7th, 1943. Under the command of Samuel Dealey, Harder quickly became one of the most effective American submarines of World War II. But a fateful mission in 1944 cut her career tragically short. Incredibly, her wreck was discovered in May 2024 at the bottom of the West Philippine Sea.
