Matilda, the wife of the great William the Conqueror, was renowned not only for her striking beauty but also for her remarkable education. She was widely admired for her intelligence, generosity, and deep piety, possessing all the virtues required of a queen consort and more. Celebrated for her exquisite needlework, Matilda mastered one of the most esteemed accomplishments expected of noblewomen. In those days, a lady who could spin, weave, and embroider with skill was considered a true treasure. Matilda’s artistry was shared by three of her cousins, who were such gifted needlewomen that they attracted suitors from among the greatest princes in Europe. Though much of her work has not survived, legend holds that Matilda was the creator of the famed Bayeux Tapestry—a monumental work of embroidery that chronicles the Norman conquest of England. While there is no definitive proof of her hand in its creation, such a masterpiece would have been a fitting tribute to her husband’s triumph and a crowning achievement in the art of needlework. As Queen of England and Duchess of Normandy, Matilda was one of the most powerful women in Europe. She bore nine children who lived to adulthood, among them two future kings—William II and Henry I. Her marriage to William was said to be one of deep affection and enduring loyalty; the Conqueror, it is told, was wholly devoted to her throughout their life together. 00:00 Introduction 02:00 Ancestry & Early Life 03:16 Matilda & William 06:18 1066 08:25 The Queen of England 10:52 The Worry of Her Eldest Son Robert 13:37 Later Life & Death #historyprofiles #matildaofflanders #kingandconqueror #williamtheconqueror #normans #normandy #normandie #anglosaxon #hastings #battleofhastings #clemencepoesy #haroldgodwinson #flanders #medieval #medievallegends #lovestory #truelovestory #realhistory #truehistory #truestory #trendingnow #trendingvideo #trending #viralnow #viral #viralvideo #viralvideos #fypage #fypyoutube #fypviral #fypviral #fyp #fypシ #edwardtheconfessor
