Between 1933 and 1945, millions of Jews were caught in the Nazi extermination machinery, living through a hell that began the moment they stepped off overcrowded, unventilated trains. Arrival at camps like Auschwitz, Majdanek, or Treblinka meant immediate selection: a simple wave of the hand decided who would live a few more weeks as a slave and who would be sent directly to the gas chambers. The process of dehumanization was meticulous—forced shaving, the tattooing of numbers, the confiscation of belongings, and treatment that reduced people to mere objects within a killing machine. Daily life in the camps was marked by extreme hunger, exhausting forced labor, constant violence, and untreated diseases. Food rations—barely a piece of bread and watery soup—quickly weakened prisoners, while the cold, overcrowding, and the brutality of the guards broke physical and mental resistance. Children, women, and the elderly were victims of abuse, medical experiments, and public humiliation. The routine was designed not only to exploit labor but also to destroy the will and erase all identity. Despite the inhuman conditions, some prisoners managed small acts of resistance: sharing bread, protecting a child, memorizing names so they would not be lost to anonymity. However, the vast majority succumbed to hunger, disease, exhaustion, or mass executions. The end of the war revealed to a horrified world the still-smoking crematoria, the mass graves, and survivors reduced to skeletons.
