Given the unique shape of this burl cap, it was difficult to reveal a gentle curving shape while also maintaining some of the more interesting features of the natural edge and wood grain. It was a delicate balancing act of approaching the final form one millimeter at a time until the shape felt correct. In the end, I was left with one of the most annoying sanding jobs of my life, trying (and mostly failing) to avoid those nasty points and edges, being relegated to hand sanding for upwards of 6 hours. When my wife saw this piece for the first time, she said it looked like a meringue or a Hershey Kiss, hence the title! Please let me know what you think of this piece by leaving a comment below!
