One of the Strongest Hurricanes on Record. Hurricane Melissa makes Landfall in Jamaica... JAMAICA: Be in your absolute safest location you can. If the structure you are in starts to fail: Have your shoes on, you can use a mattress, pillow, or blankets to shield yourself from flying objects and glass, use a bucket or a pot to protect your head. Be in the room with the least amount of windows or no windows. Often, the bathroom is safest, and if the walls fail, consider going into the bathtub and putting a mattress or blanket over you and your family members. If you are in the Eye, you will have a 10-30 minute calm period. Use this time to grab extra items near you to shelter yourself. When the other side of the Eyewall returns, the winds will be coming from the reverse direction. SOUTHEAST CUBA: This will still be a Major Hurricane as it moves in tonight.
