In July 1924, with the promotion of the Communist Party of China, Peng Pai proposed and presided over the founding of the first Peasant Movement Training Institute. It was officially run by the Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang but actually led by the Communist Party. From 1925, the second to fifth sessions of the Peasant Movement Institute were held successively. From May to September 1926, Mao Zedong presided over the sixth session of the Peasant Movement Institute, which first recruited students nationwide, with 327 participants. In January 1927, with the advancement of the Northern Expedition, the National Government moved to Wuhan, and the Guangzhou Peasant Movement Institute ceased its educational activities. In 1953, the former site of the Peasant Movement Institute was converted into a memorial hall, with Zhou Enlai inscribing the plaque "The Former Site of the Peasant Movement Institute Hosted by Comrade Mao Zedong". In March 1961, it was listed as one of the first national key cultural relic protection units by the State Council, confirming its revolutionary historical value. In 1994, it was rated as Guangzhou's first batch of patriotism education bases, enhancing its educational function. In 2005, it was selected as a "National Red Tourism Classic Scenic Spot", becoming a landmark of Guangzhou's red culture.
