Today, I wanted to highlight news about a new lawsuit file by Epic Games against Google and Samsung. #android #epicgames #samsunggalaxy This new lawsuit claims that Google and Samsung have conspired to block competing app stores from being installed by default on Samsung devices. The company is not happy with the process users have to go through to disable the Auto Blocker feature that Samsung has recently rolled out. Auto Blocker is not only enabled by default, and Epic claims the "scare screens" that they display will prevent people from wanting to install the Epic Game Store application onto their Samsung Galaxy device. This additional friction, as Epic puts it, goes as far as to lie to the user by claiming the Auto Blocker feature makes the device more secure, even though it doesn't actively block any malicious activity at all. Epic cites the results of their lawsuit against Google, and believes that Google isn't the only company who need to cease their efforts to block competition. Showing the full 21 steps involved to go from wanting to install games from the the Epic Game Store to actually getting the app up and running properly. The company also points out some evidence that was uncovered during their first trial, where Google actively tried to pay Samsung to phase out the Galaxy Store in an attempt to stifle competition. Showing proof that Google signed a revenue sharing agreement with Samsung back in 2020 that would stop the company from entering into any exclusive details with major game developers for the Galaxy Store. They even include screenshots of the 21 steps involved to getting a competing app store up and running on a Samsung Galaxy device. Honestly, this lawsuit makes a lot of sense and I'm surprised that Samsung actually went through and enabled it by default after the lawsuit between Epic and Google had concluded the way it did. Granted, Auto Blocker does a lot more than just block APKs from being sideloaded. But maybe Samsung needs to split this up if they really feel the need to block the ability to sideload APK files on Samsung Galaxy devices. Especially considering this is a feature that is built into Android in the first place. Which makes sense, I guess, as Samsung has a history of duplicating apps and features that are already available on Android. But let me know what you think about this lawsuit down in the comments section below And please, remember to like this video while also subscribing to the channel for more Android news content like this.
