I get it... A lot of YouTubers will claim the car market crash is upon us. We like to scream the SKY IS FALLING! In this video, I present the current stats, facts and figures surrounding the car market and auto industry at large. The writing is on the wall, we've far exceeded the breaking point. Something has got to give soon. The numbers don't lie. In this video, I talk through the following points: - Buying a new car has become more about social status. - MSRPs have risen 45% since 2019. - Median rent and mortgage payments have gone up over 20% since 2019. - Auto insurance continues to skyrocket. Full coverage being around $2,899 annually or $242 monthly. This has over doubled in the last 3 years. - Average wages and salaries have seen an actual growth of 7-10% since then. - Meanwhile auto maker CEOs are making millions. Of 61 companies, the median CEO pay was 17.3M per year. GM’s CEO made $29.5M in 2024… Ford’s CEO made $24.9M. - New vehicle inventory is reaching record high levels… not only that, the growth rate of the inventory is equally staggering. - Currently sitting at 3M new vehicles available with 89 day supply and 2.4M Used vehicles available with 51 day supply. - Dealers are beginning to panic! - New vehicle incentives have reached a 3-year high in Oct. - This is impacting wholesale values of used vehicles. Dealers don’t want your used vehicle for trade in so much. They don’t have space! - Even Carmax offers are down a reported 11% since April. - Flooring costs are eating dealers up. - This combined with the fact that Americans have car buying fatigue is a recipe for disaster! - Dealers took advantage of people during the pandemic, ruining their reputations even more. Markups… treating customers like another number. No respect for returning customers. - Banks were in on it… issuing auto loans up to 150% LTV. - Car payments are keeping us broke! - New car sales down 8% year over year - Prices need to come down, seeing that with the Wrangler 392. - Ford to offer 0% interest rates on F150s - Used car inventory is climbing quickly too. There’s no incentive to buy Used… no manufacturer incentives. - Amount of debt needed to finance a car has reach record levels. - 1/4 trade ins have a negative equity. 25% of people currently owe more on their vehicle than they’re worth. $7,800 being the average. - People overpaid throughout the pandemic. - Repo rates are up substantially. - 1.5M vehicles repossessed in 2023, then 1.75M last year… right now, 2.2M vehicles have been repo’d… expected to reach 3M by end of year. - The car market historically precedes the housing market within the US. - Housing foreclosures are up 20% year over year. 8th consecutive month of rising foreclosures. - Supply far exceeds demand. There’s 36.8% more Sellers than Buyers right now. - 53% of all houses on the market have seen a decline in value year over year. Biggest slump seen since 2012. - People are living in debt, most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. - In 2025, total U.S. credit card debt has reached a record high of approximately $1.23 trillion. The average credit card balance is about $6,523 per borrower, and the average interest rate (APR) is over 22%. - New EV is over $58K, average new vehicle is $50K. No more EV government subsidies. - People are stretching their loan durations by so much just to justify their monthly payments. 72 months… 84 months. - 1/5 new car buys are locking into 84 month loans. - Average loan duration is 68 months! - With great credit New car loans still average around 7%… Used being closer to 12%. - Use car loan rates for subprime buyers Used car loan 19-21.5% New car loans 15-20%… - Auto loan delinquencies have hit a 15 year high. - Pre-Tariff surge in sales… then a huge slump. - Auto loan debt is 1.65Trillion… which now exceed student loan debt. - $750 for new car, $525 for used monthly car payments. - Buying a new vehicle is becoming an option ONLY for the upper class. The middle class is being priced out! That’s the harsh truth. - GM and Ford are acting as though they’ll get a government bailout if things get bad enough. - The greedy dealers will go under. The dealers willing to cut their losses sooner than later will get and a chance. - Wholesale values are down. Dealers don’t get their safety net. - With 2026s showing up, dealers will have to slash prices on their 2024 and 2025 carryover units. What are you seeing at your local dealerships?
