Restoration and Modification of Broken Saber

Hi! Today, the restoration of an of mystery dirty piece. Judging by the shape and possibly the tang, I realized that it was a knife or something similar. But I'm not sure. These are the new finds of my friend, who is looking for a metal detector. He found new things and gave me (a few). I'm starting to restore the item. I cleaned the first layers of dirt and rust with an iron brush. Next, I placed this item in a rust remover. After 9 hours, I took out and placed this item in warm water with baking soda to neutralize the acid effect. After cleaning, I realized that it was not a knife, but a fragment of a saber, or some kind of sword. Because there are fuller and a characteristic tang and the geometry of the blade itself. Next, I cleaned the surface of this piece with an iron brush and proceeded to sanding with sandpaper. After sanding, I adjusted the cutting edge of the blade and made new bevels. But, in my opinion, the hardness of this object is small. I normalized the metal, and then quenched and tempered it. After completing the heat treatment, I cleaned the surface with sand, etched fuller, sanded it and started creating the handle. For the handle, I used an old dry axe handle that I no longer need, but the first two attempts were in vain - the wood was spoiled. The third time, I succeeded, and I glued the handle together, as well as riveted the tang with a brass rivet. For the upper part of the handle, I added brass and leather. After the glue had dried, I turned to processing the handle. After shaping it into the right shape, I made notches on the handle to make it comfortable to hold. I soaked the handle well with warm corn oil along with wax, and proceeded to create a leather sheath for this large knife. The scabbard turned out to be good, made of genuine leather, of medium thickness. As usual, I tested this knife. I hope you enjoy this restoration. Thank you, don't forget to share this video.
